Large production companies tend to spread their franchises to Slovenia or Croatia due to closeness to ex-Yugoslavian markets, and lead their business through Zagreb (capitol of Croatia) or Ljubljana (capitol of Slovenia) offices. In spite of franchises, not many companies decide to also distribute the products themselves. Good distribution is the key to starting up sales.
Many companies with a wide range of products and brands decide to use a distribution company rather than franchise alone for many different reasons. Therefore, you will find offices of companies such as Colgate or Johnson Wax in Slovenia, but they too use a local distribution company. Choosing a distribution company with years of experience and great relationships with their target group is probably the best possible idea when you’re just starting up a brand in a new country. We don’t believe it’s worth taking a chance on your own at the beginning, the investment in the market is big as it is and the costs for anything that is not marketing or sales related must be reduced to a minimum.
