Wholesaler

As the producer of certain brands and products, you deal with many different wholesalers in different countries. Here are some general guidelines to help you in your dealing with your wholesaler.

1. research the credibility of the wholesaler: before signing anything, make sure you know what kind of company you're getting yourself involved with. Do your research, or let us do it for you, before you invest thousands of Euros into the new market and new distributor wholesaler. We at Distributor.si have experience with both types, those that will work hard for their and your money and will play fair and never let you down, and those that will agree to distribute your products just because they are afraid "if they don't do it, somebody else will" and at the end, you end up with a major stock at your wholesaler, imagine - even with expired goods, and they're trying to get the stock back to you, while they didn't lift a finger to sell the stock to their customers. Oh yes, it has happened before and will happen again. Don't get scammed with your potential wholesaler.

2. research your products and their chances with a potential wholesaler: if you believe that two wholesalers are better than just one, maybe you have a point - competition is healthy. But this may largly depend on the target market, as Slovenia is a small developing market, geographically very centalized and might not be able to tolerate two wholesalers, while Croatia might tolerate even three, as it is geographically divided into three strong entities. No matter how you decide, make sure your understands the importance of your products to you. If you choose a bigger wholesaler who deals with some market leaders, and you're offering a smaller brand, be aware that your brand might be put second everytime. If you choose a smaller distribution company, you might be their number one, but as a wholesaler they might not have the power or influence.

3. present your products adequately to your wholesaler: have no secrets! If you're completely new on the market, there's your advantage. If you're struggling to open new markets, tell them you need their experience and advice to boost your sales. But first and foremost, be honest to the people that will be selling your products to retailers and final consumers, because there is nothing like a bad feeling that someone lied to you.
